Creative Ideas for Your Mature Landscape

Most people think about bringing in a Landscape Designer when they have a new construction project, or when they’re getting ready to do a major overhaul of their landscape, like removing large areas of turf, trees and plants and starting from scratch.  For any new construction project or major overhaul, the services of a qualified and experienced Landscape Designer are absolutely essential.

However, it’s far more common and just as important for our Landscape Designers to work with our existing Landscape Maintenance clients, creating plans to rejuvenate and revive landscapes as they become more established and mature.

When a community or commercial property reaches a certain age, typically 10-15 years old, the landscape just doesn’t look as good as it used to.  The landscape materials start to look tired.  Shrubs start to look thin and leggy.  Grass gets patchy or doesn’t grow at all in certain areas.

That’s when our clients look to us for solutions.

How can we give their property a facelift without breaking the bank?

They need their curb appeal to keep up with the newer communities and commercial properties in the area, but don’t have the budget, or the desire to pull everything out and start from scratch.

The good news is – they don’t have to!

Landscape Designers are brought in to look at the initial landscape plan and find out what’s changed as the landscape’s matured over the years.  Plants do have lifespans, so replacement is always something to consider.  But replacing with exactly the same materials that were installed before is usually not the best answer.

The first thing our Designers look at – growth of the property’s trees.  Over the course of a decade, your trees grow. They create more shade.  As a result, the plants that used to thrive when they had regular exposure to full sun conditions now look tired in partial sun or shade.  Turf that was once vibrant and green is now thin or completely gone in patches.  All grasses need sunlight to grow, which wasn’t an issue 10 years ago, but now, as the trees have grown, that turf may be in the shade most of the day.

Landscape Designers will help you re-imagine your property’s landscape plan, embracing the current design trends, accounting for existing conditions, and planning for future growth.

Got shady areas in your landscape?  Consider a multi-year plan to replace aging shrubs that require full sun with shade-loving groundcovers.  Have bare patches of dirt where grass used to grow?  Replace them with mulch or pine straw.  Our Landscape Designers can help you create a beautiful and enjoyable outdoor space that will make your residents or guests feel like they’re walking through a forest.

Remember, there’s no reason to start from scratch if your landscape’s starting to show its age.  Working with a Landscape Designer gives you the ability to embrace your mature trees and make them a feature that will help set your community or commercial property apart.
