Many think “Christmastime” when they think of Poinsettias. Poinsettias are one of the most popular plants of this season. Surprisingly, they are native to Central America. Beginning as early as summer, Poinsettias are plugged in the greenhouse in preparation for the holidays.
Often overlooked, Poinsettias can be used in the landscape. They are grown as perennials in some areas of Central and South Florida. In ideal tropical locations, they can grow over 10 feet tall. The characteristic attractive colors come from the bracts of the plant. Bracts are modified leaves that support the flowers.
