Soft, light green leaves and bright yellow flowers best describe Thryallis. Thryallis is native to Central America. This medium texture shrub typically grows from 5 to 6 feet tall but can grow up to 8 feet tall if allowed. Hundreds of showy yellow flowers dot the shrub from summer through fall. For the best flowering effect, plant Thryallis in full sun with well-drained soil. Though pests are not generally a problem, sometimes caterpillars and mites may attack the plant. Thryallis has little salt tolerance and will whither when it does not receive enough water.
If exposed to a hard freeze, Thryallis will die back. However, a spring pruning will promote rejuvenation. This shrub is commonly used as a border accent, foundation, or specimen plant. When designing, keep in mind the yellow color. The yellow flowers make a nice contrast with reds, oranges, and purples.
