An untouched hideaway of beauty distinguishes one of Central Florida’s best kept secrets, Grand Haven. This gated community is buried among the oak hammock canopies that run along the Intracoastal Waterway between Flagler Beach and Palm Coast. A Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, modern country club, sizable estates, and acres and acres of manicured landscape are just part of what one will find within the community’s gates.
Grand Haven has partnered with Austin Outdoor for landscape services since the community’s inception a decade ago. Landscape maintenance is but a small portion of the master plan for Grand Haven’s future. The community has taken a real interest in progressing toward “ Florida Friendly” practices. “Florida Friendly” refers to the Florida Friendly Landscaping program initiated by the University of Florida Extension. The Florida Friendly program is based on sound principles of landscape management that are meant to protect and preserve our Florida water resources while enhancing landscape beauty.
Grand Haven Board Members began the process toward Florida Friendly principles by taking a special interest in the water quality of the lakes that are sprinkled throughout the community. The community has undertaken several projects to improve the aquatic quality of its lakes. Several on-going projects include installing aeration systems, providing littoral zone plant life, and adding sterile carp to combat invasive aquatic plants. “We have already learned that every pond is its own ecosystem” describes Property Manager Barry Kloptosky. Account Manager Josh Wells has worked closely with Barry and others to help implement these projects. Mr. Wells has also been highly instrumental in ensuring best management practices are being followed in the community’s landscape maintenance. Some best management practices include fertilizing appropriately, irrigating efficiently, and planting the right plant in the right place.
Looking into the future, Grand Haven will continue to work toward Florida Friendly stature. This noble ambition is an excellent way to ensure Grand Haven’s natural beauty is preserved for future generations to enjoy. Visit Grand Haven’s website by clicking here.
